Information
I engraved a few LED Pens for my sweetie. The firsts were simple I LOVE YOUs. The 2nd was a self-designed heart wrap.

Instruction

Step1: I Love You LED Pen

The I LOVE YOU pens were laid flat on the base of the F1. They were engraved at 35% power, 150 mm/sec speed, 1 pass and 100 lpc. I love you typed into the text of XCS.

Step2: The Heart Wrapped LED Pen Birth

The LED Pen with the heart wrap came to light due to a simple thought of how to carry my love, wherever he shall be. I love doing tumblers on the F1 or the M1. I just got done engraving a mini tumbler and was sitting here wondering if the RA2 would hold the pen? Could I get it level enough to engrave? What could I put on it to show love and compliment the I LOVE YOU pen? Hearts of course, and the XCS shape library had a heart shape which is what I used. I know it is a green pen, but it is all I had left, and green is his favorite color.

Step3: Setting up the RA2

The pen was inserted into the jaws of the chuck, ink end first. I used the step jaws that were set up for gripping a small tumbler from the inside. They held the pen grip wonderfully. Before tightening the chuck, I manually rotated the pen to assure it was level and there were no wobbles. Just like a tumbler. I might add that I left the clip facing DOWNWARD. This matches the design.

Step4: The Wrap

I selected the heart shape from XCS Shapes. I set to engrave and the created a 9x6 grid, 1 mm apart, and adjusted the size to mirror the design area. I ungrouped the whole thing and offset every other row to the right half the width of a single heart. This whole thing was selected and the “make a compound vector”. I then measured the clip and created a rectangle mimicking those dimensions. The rectangle was adjusted using Node editing. The rectangle, and the design were then aligned vertically and aligned to the top and then subtracted. The SVG contains the “design area” mock-up as well. The design was rotated -90 degrees, to align with the pen orientation and set in place .

The RA, with pen, was slid under the F1 laser head, focused, and framing ran. Once I was happy with the placement, I engraved at 35% power, 150mm/sec speed, 1 pass, and 100 lpc Blue Light.
