At the time I made this I was 'into pallet projects'. Of course I waited too long to buy something decent for my wife, so I had to make something. I don't remember how I came up with this idea, but it was a good idea. With two runners of a pallet, I made a block of wood, which I then roughly shaped with a hand saw. Then I used an angle grinder with a sand paper attachment to shape the heart. Lastly I used a soldering iron to engrave the design (but a laser tool would have been easier :-) My wife got all emotional when she got this gift.
I took apart a pallet and used two parts of the runners. I glued them together. Together they were about 4x8x2".
Then I drwe the shape of a heart on them.
Then I used a hand saw to remove most of the waste.
This is for sure the most important step and that's why I forgot to take pictures :-))
I clamped the roughly-heart shaped block down, and used my angle grinder with a sand-paper attachment to shape the heart.
Maybe it's best that I didn't add images, because this is the creative part and it's best to use your creativity rather than follow steps.
Do keep in mind to clamp down the shape firmly. Use eye and ear protection, and use a dust mask.
Once the shaping is done, finer and finer sanding is done. I think I stopped at about 250 grit, which became smooth enough for my taste.
I also bored a hole to hold a candle light.
This part I did a few years back when I didn't have a laser machine yet, so I used a soldering iron.
I made a design to put 14-2-18 (the date back then) on the heart, and the three letters B,C,W on there.
B is our son, C is my wife, and W is me.
Nowadays, I would use my xTool F1 to laser the design on there.
I'm really happy with how the heart came out. The wife was very happy with it too!
