These dryer balls were constantly rolling off the shelf in my laundry room so I had been using a flimsy cardboard box to contain them. As a basic, practical project to familiarize myself with the laser, I made a box out of birch plywood to upgrade the cardboard box.
The project is pretty self-explanatory, but here are some notes.
I cut this box from 3 mm birch plywood using the xTools suggested settings. I sanded the ends of the pins and the top edge to remove all char/toasted color, and sanded the sides of the pieces to 320 grit sandpaper.
The box is a tight enough fit that press fit might have worked, but for security I assembled with yellow carpenters glue. Take care in pressing together, the pins are narrow and I chipped off the edge of the veneer on the outside of one of the pins, requiring repair with a tiny amount of wood putty.
The box was finished with Watco Danish Oil, but any wood finish or paint would be suitable. I do not recommend leaving the box unfinished if you will have it out on an open shelf, as it may be exposed to water splashes.
Note: this box is an odd size because I made it to fit my specific dryer balls. The inside dimensions are about 3-7/8" by 8-5/8" If you want to make this project yourself, please be sure to measure your dryer balls to be sure they will fit!
