Information
Short version of L Koop's small round trinket box (original: 3" x 2¾"; short: 3" x 1¾"). File includes simplified versions of both original and short boxes.

UPDATED! New v2 to improve tolerances for the section near the sidewall seam. The new file also has layers so that you can drop the inner cuts before the outer cuts. The first version is still available also.

Step1: Cut

Choose your canvas: Shorty (1¾" tall) or Original (2¾" tall).

All red lines (and orange in v2) are cut; the top layer of the handle has an engraved flower (black) but you could edit it to cut (as seen in the picture for the original version). These were cut on an S1 40w; adjust the settings accordingly for your machine.

File includes some labels in blue for reference. They're set to no output but they won't hurt anything if they print.

When ready, send the file to your cutter.

Step2: Assemble

Box:

  1. Dab glue in and between the notches of the bottom plate. (The top of the plate, not the cut edge, as the side rests on the top of the plate.)
  2. Take flexible side wall and wrap it around the bottom plate, tabs into notches, ensuring that the two end tabs at the seam go into the double-wide notch. Glue up the seam.
  3. Similar to bottom plate, glue in and between the notches of the top ring and place it on top of the side wall, tabs into notches, with the two end tabs at the seam going into the double-wide notch.

If you find the seam flapping up while the glue dries, rest the box on its side with the seam down. You can also gently roll it to ensure the tabs rest in the notches.

Lid:

  1. Dab glue on top of the thin ring and press to the underside of the lid. While the glue is still wet, place the lid on the box and use your fingers to push the lid so it lines up with the top ring on the box, then remove the lid from the box to dry. This will ensure a correct fit when the lid is closed.
  2. Assemble the handle by gluing the three small disks together in a stack. Roll the stack on the table with a bit of flat scrap wood to align them, then glue the decorated larger disk on top, eyeballing the alignment.
  3. Glue the lid top ring to the top of the lid. Eyeball the alignment--the ring will skim the edges of the flower cutouts.
  4. Glue the bottom of the handle stack to the center of the lid. Again, it will skim the edges of the flower cutouts in the middle.
