What better to engrave on an ammo can than the 2nd Amendment. These are cans that I found in a thrift store that I painted matte black and had sitting on a shelf.
Since the ammo can was so big, I had to put blocks under the legs in order to give the laser enough clearance. While doing this I had an epiphany of sorts. Rather than taking the legs off or putting them on to use the rotary attachment, I could leave them on all the time and build a removable platform to put my honeycomb on.
I created a text box and typed in the 2nd Amendment. The hardest part was finding a font that I liked and looked appropriate. I ended up using a second text box for Shall not be infringed, in order to make it stand out more. The main box in Old English Text MT. Shall not be infringed is Dancing Script.
I added a couple of scraps under the edge of the can to make sure it was even. Once it was centered, square and level I framed it and made sure it fit. I adjusted the text box size and the line breaks to make sure it fit and looked right. As you can see, there is ample room to make the text bigger. For my next one I will go at least 50% larger to start and adjust up or down as needed.
The settings were the same for both boxes. While the script shows up in the picture, it could be a little brighter…I may try it with a different color can, maybe a matte red, white or blue…hey, there is an idea….
