Here is a quick little ornament project to capture a memory that you can relive every year! All you need is a picture, wood, and a little time.
Gather up what you need for this project. One piece of 12"x12" stock will be enough for 4 doors and will take about 18 minutes to cut based on the settings I used. It will take roughly 5 minutes to cut one door if you want to make just one.
Get your paint and brushes, and glue ready to go. Find the picture you want, it will need to be 55mm tall and 45mm wide. This will allow the picture to extend outside of the window frame and allow you to secure the picture with painters tape rather than glue. I used painters tape because it was right in front of me, but you could use another type, just make sure it is thin so that when you glue the door to the frame the tape will not cause a gap between the two.
If you have not already, download the file and open it in XCS. There are two layers in this project, a red and blue layer.
Red - Cut Layer
Blue - Engrave Layer
Ensure that the cut and engrave settings will work for your laser and adjust as necessary. Load the material. Focus the laser and map the area. When ready, process the project, click start, and then press the button.
Layout your pieces and paint them up. Allow them to dry before the next step. A hair dryer can speed up this part, and thin layers of paint will dry much faster than thick layers.
Flip the door over to expose the unpainted side. Place the picture face down on the door and secure it with tape. Flip the door over and make sure that the picture is aligned correctly. If it's not, align it before continuing.
Glue on the door knob. There is an engraved circle to help you align it. Then glue on the wreath, and the bow to the wreath. Next, glue the long thin piece to the bottom of the backer. The backer is the piece with the ring at the top. The long thin piece will help to align the door. It's not required, but adds a little accent to the project.
Carefully glue the door to the backer.
That's it, you're done! That wasn't so bad at all. Hang the ornament on the tree or give it away as a gift.
