The perfect gift for the harried mom of teenagers who likes to de-stress with a glass of wine at the end of the day. The XCS file is setup to laser engrave on a 12oz powder-coated stainless steel tumbler, but feel free to use the image file to create wine glasses, gift bags, cards, or anything else your imagine can come up with. Image created using AI Make with the following parameters: [Style] Classic quote [Prompt] Harried mother drinking a glass of wine [Text] Don't judge me - I have teenagers.
Assemble the RA2 Pro using the Chuck attachment with double-step jaws and the Tilt Adjust Module as per the instruction manuals.
Position the tumbler on the rotary and adjust the chuck jaws for a secure fit.
Since tumbler is tapered, it will be angled upwards when mounted on the rotary. In order to achieve as flat an engraving surface as possible, place a wooden block underneath the rotary to tilt the entire setup downwards. Then compensate for any overly downward tilt using the Tilt Adjust module to fine tune the angle. Use the Laser Positioning Module and a level to achieve a flat engraving surface along the central axis of the tumbler.
Warning: Please ensure that the rotary is stable on the baseplate of the M1 riser, and that it won't rock or move during the engraving process!
Open the project in XCS. Ensure processing mode is set to "Chuck - Use Rotary Attachment" and that the perimeter of 270mm is entered for the tumbler.
Note: The perimeter is measured towards the center of the engraving frame on the tumbler.
Use the Laser Positioning Module on the RA2 Pro to bring the M1 Ultra laser in line with the central axis of the tumbler. Then move the laser along the x-axis until the red cross sits over the center of the engraving frame (about halfway between the top lip of the tumbler and the spot where the taper angle gets abruptly steeper). Then measure the distance at this position in XCS.
Slide the laser along the x-axis until the cross is just to the left of the chuck jaws. This is where we will position the engraving in XCS.
The XCS canvas includes the image we will engrave as well as a rectangle equal to the engraving area on the tumbler (80mm x 270mm, encompassing the size of the tumbler in between the lip and the abruptly steeper taper). The image is centered on the rectangle. The rectangle is set to “Ignore,” while the image is set to “Engrave.”
These are my recommended Engraving settings for powder-coated steel using the M1 Ultra 20W Laser Module. You may need to adjust the settings according to your machine and materials:
Power: 60%
Speed: 150 mm/s
Pass: 1
Bitmap Mode: Jarvis
Lines per cm: 200
Engraving mode: Bidirectional
In order to ensure that the engraving occurs on the correct part of the tumbler, Select All (ctrl+A on PC, cmd+A on Mac) and move the rectangle and image together so that the right-center edge of the rectangle lines up with the red cross as shown in the screenshot.
Note: Please double check that the rectangle is set to “Ignore” and the text and image are set to “Engrave” before proceeding.
Check Framing to ensure that the laser will engrave in the correct position on the tumbler. Be sure the red cross does not touch the chuck jaws during framing - if it does, move the laser slightly to the left, reposition the images on the canvas as above, and try again.
Click “Process.” Confirm that the Preview looks correct. Click “Start” and engrave!
