Emboss Coaster Searched for back and white image, uploaded into depth map creator. Depth Image had to me manually modified a bit
Based on recommendation, I searched for a black and white image.
Use keywords such as vector, logo, png, and other to get better results.
pickup an image you like.
Choose the embossment AI option
upload the image and click on generate
Image generated is pretty accurate as I have tried other AI tools to generate Depthmap and none has been really a true depth map but more a black white image with shadows.
So I really recommend this AI, but there might be depth issues which you want to fix. depending on the image uploaded, results might vary.
For this, you an use different programs to modify the depth map.
You need to keep in mind that depth maps do not have shadows.
The whiter the more extruded and the darker the more embossed.
As I tried using free options and light weight applications so that it can basically run on any computer.
I used Paint.NET which is free and light weight.
(don't just put paint.net on the browser or it will go to a none existing page but add the word "download" after, so that it actually searches for the application),
or use this link https://www.getpaint.net/download.html
I used the pyrochild.plugins (just bing/google it) so that I have the smudge option which help me smooth out and do better transitions.
or use this link https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/7291-pyrochild-plugins-2020-11-21/
note: Paint.NET let's you easily modify the brush size with [ and ], the smudge also changes brush size with it. make sure to adjust the pressure.
If you have other editing tools, you can use them to modify your depth map.
I used those free options which is super light weight so it could run on my poor computer.
Once you have the image updated, check if depth map looks ok or more adjustment is needed.
To do so, make sure you have selected emboss on the processing mode instead of processing on flat surface.
On the emboss mode, when you upload and select the image, you will get the option to have an emboss preview.
Keep repeating the modification process until you are happy with how it looks.
Remember to choose the material to be rock coaster (or any other material you want to emboss)
Search for recommended settings as well by other projects.
I just used the default value, making sure the Number of layers was 256
Seeing some videos of other people precessing, they used air to blow away particles while processing. If you don't do this, you might get some artifacts like me…
Also make sure the extractor with the filter is on.
Be patient and have the machine on a good UPS in case of power outage.
After processing it, you might get some artifacts,
these are easily cleanable using a folded sanding paper, or sanding drill bits.
if you used brass coin, you might need to use a rotary tool or other means to do some minor adjustments.
for Brass, people also mentioned giving it a final soft later for engraving fully over the image, just to make it shine again.
After you get the final result, you can add more things into it.
Like additional logos, names, etc
