Information
First of all, I LOVE my parents very much. I made this sign for my parent's 60th wedding anniversary on a very low budget but that doesn't mean that it has to look cheap and I did put a lot of time designing it and choosing the various images. So let's take a look at what I did.

Step1: How to save time and money

I want you to know that you can save time and money by making a list of the items you'll need for your projects and then use your resources online to research where you can get the items you need (or similar items).  For example, I wanted to make a greeting sign for a table top.  I saw this silver cake board so TADA, now I have the size for my sign.  I can now design images using the cake board as the background. (I didn't have to buy a $12 iridescent poster board for the background.) Of course I began at my local dollar store.

Step2: Re use designs or themes in your project

You will notice I reused these images and designs throughout my creations for the anniversary party.  If you have extras from another project, that's even better as long as the color and theme match.  These were cut from extra “table lamps” from this event.

Step3: Cutting your cardstock

I laser cut the iridescent cardstock with the shiny side facing down.  I noticed that as it cut the image, the cardstock would curl due to the heat so I had to add small weighted items to hold the cardstock down in strategic spots.

Step4: Laying out your design

Finally when everything is cut out, you can lay out your items and use your creativity to make your design eye catching.  i stayed with the black and silver theme but if this were for a wedding, you may decide to add color or flower designs instead of the diamond shapes.  Once all your pieces are in place, you can use double sided tape and place your pieces one by one in their spots.

I used the image of the couple from another project and just skipped all the layers it had.  I also added the “hearts” and the text.  This may seem like a simple design but It took a lot of time and effort to arrange it and to be aware of the silver and black design I was going for.  I really hope this helps someone out there.  Just remember that planning you cuts and laying it out really helps you come up with a design that compliments the theme of your event.  Making this project has given me a ton of ideas for weddings.

Thanks for your time and if you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to share them below.

Thanks

Robert
