Information
Are you a hobbyist who uses those small glass Testors bottles of paint?
Do you struggle to mix the settled pigments by seemingly endless hand shaking, resulting in tired and sore wrists after even 1 bottle?
Well... NO MORE!
This project will give you the ability to QUICKLY shake 1-2 bottles at a time within seconds!

  1. Open the file into XCS and confirm your settings match the layers in the sample images
  2. You will need to insure you set the 2mm shim layer (purple) to ignore while processing the box components
  3. Reference Layer (blue) is just that. It should be set to ignore.
  4. The Maker's Mark Layer (black) is set to engrave, but should be set to ignore while processing the shim.
  5. The Box Layer (red) is set to Cut, but should be set to ignore when processing the Shim Layer.

I recommend processing the Red and black layers together, so the alignment remains accurate.

Once the project has been processed, the assembly is next.

  1. Layout your pieces and make sure you assemble each box, gluing the tops, sides and bottom together using Super Glue or any suitable rapid set adhesive. standard wood glue is ok, just takes longer and requires clamping and more cleanup work to remove excess glue.
  2. Do not glue the Lids on! Keep the lids OFF until AFTER the boxes have been assembled and the shim has been glued in.
  3. Once the boxes are assembled, lay them side by side with openings facing up.
  4. The Shim will be glued BETWEEN them. Make sure the shim is properly aligned for a even fit on outer edges. When gluing the shim, try not to get glue on the areas where the lid tabs will touch the shim.
  5. Once the boxes and shim are assembled its time to install the blade.
  6. Apply a generous amount of Super Glue to both sides of the blade starting from the cutting end up 2" Install the blade with Teeth first and facing forward to open side of box. Immediately insert the blade fully into the slot.
  7. Let it sit for a few minutes so glue sets.
  8. Now measure and cut the shrink tubing long enough to cover the exposed teeth on the blade. DO NOT cover any more of the blade than the teeth. The shank must be able to insert into the saw and lock in place. You can always trim off any excess tubing after heating and shrinking the tubing around the blade.

Step3: Load the Shaker and get to mixing!

Grab your bottles to mix and insure all bottle lids are screwed down tightly. If they are preopened, make sure there is NO dried paint around the rim and the lids are screwed closed tightly!

Load the bottles and install the box lids. Some bottles may fit more snug, as the space is confined to prevent the bottles from moving around inside and potentially breaking during the mix process.

Install the box lids and install the heavy rubber band to keep the lids in place.

Insert the blade into the saw and make sure the blade is securely locked in place.

Plug in the saw and run it for about 20 seconds on fast. I suggest holding the saw so the bottles are suspended BELOW the saw (vertically). If the saw is operated with the bottles horizontal (sideways) you may experience some wobble in the blade, but adjusting speed up or down will usually prevent the wobble.

I run my saw at about 1/2 speed.

ENJOY!
