Instead of carving a real pumpkin for my front porch, I thought of making an LED pumpkin lamp with Halloween scenes embedded inside.
I began by sketching out the idea of the pumpkin lamp I have in mind, basically, it is just a pumpkin with an LED light in the center (Photo 1), and the light can shine through the lamp.
So I figured that creating pumpkin slices around the LED light to build the basic pumpkin body, so light could shine through to create some mysterious look, and Halloween figures could be put on each slice to create the mood.
So each slice should be large enough to fit adequate designs and should have enough slices, to create the shape of a pumpkin. Photo 2 shows the side view of my design, and photo 3 shows the top view, there will be 12 slices of half pumpkin.
In Silhouette Studio, I put together my design files.
Photo 1 shows the steps that I create my pumpkin slice.
Photo 2 showing the step how I created the Holding Disk
So we ended up with left and right pumpkin slices and the top and bottom holding disks, see Photo 3. Any design added to the basic shapes will determine the scheme of the pumpkin.
I am putting together for Halloween, so spider, spider web, bat, witch, tomb, ghost, hunted house, and of course, Jack-o-Lantern pumpkins definitely have to be included. Here are 6 sets of my creations.
Basically, you can add any patterns that you like, just make sure to connect the designs to the outline of the basic pumpkin outline as much as possible to ensure the stability of the designs.
After you are satisfied with the designs, export them to SVG format and put them to the test.
Upload the SVG design files onto xTool Creative Space, and connect to your machine.
With my 10W M1, 3mm basswood, I use the power of 100, and speed 4 and 1 pass was sufficient to cut through all my designs.
This is an optional or a creative step. It is entirely up to you. Since I'm thinking of putting it on my front porch, so I decided to color it to make it more inviting.
So deep Orange, dark purple, black, white, and some silver are the basic colors I've used here.
Assembly is very simple.
