Teachers are some of the most important people in the world. They shape and mold our youth and teach them how to think. I created a reminder board out of cork that will give any teacher a constant reminder of how important they are.
The first thing I did in creating this design was to measure the actual length and width of the board. This is important as I work in millimeters. Once I have the measurement I create a tool path for the outline so I can set up design.
I wanted a message to convey this important sentiment about teachers and the influence they have. So I created this design for that. I wanted to leave space on the bottom in order for this to be fully functional so I did a vertical center but not a horizontal.
I used the 40w laser on this and burned it a little dark but I wanted it to be a dark engraving, if you know your cork settings you should be able to adjust them here based on the laser wattage you have. If you do not, you can always use the xtool recommended setting or do a test pattern. I would suggest getting the xtool setting and using that to base your test pattern so you can get the exact effect you want.
This is where you should take a lot of time to verify alignment. I have ruined many projects by speeding up this step. I have my crosshairs aligned but always verify that it is correct by doing both types of framing that it allows in lightburn. One will go around the tool path to verify the border of the board. The other will give you an outline of where your design will be.
Once you are sure of your settings and alignment, burn the design.
This is probably the most important step. I am sure this functional gift will leave a lasting impression.
