Instruction
1
Step1: Select and Prepare Your Wood

Choose a high-quality hardwood like maple, cutting it to a size of approximately 6" x 6" x 1". Hand sand the surface thoroughly with 400 grit sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish. Optionally, use a router with a 1/8” round-over bit to soften the edges, ensuring a polished and professional appearance.

2
Step2: Prepare the File in Laser Software

Open xTool Creative Space, resize the image to fit your wooden piece and align it both vertically and horizontally. If using the optional multiple layers then move them all off the canvas except for the current one.

3
Step3: Configure Laser Settings and Engrave

Set your laser engraving machine with appropriate settings for maple wood, such as:

  • Density: 180-220
  • Power: 65-96%
  • Speed: 120-140% Perform a test engrave on a scrap piece to fine-tune these settings. Once satisfied, securely place your prepared wood in the laser engraver and initiate the engraving process, time verys depending on the settings for the 6" x 6" piece.
4
Step4: Clean and Finish the Engraved Scene

After engraving, remove the wood carefully and clean the engraved areas using a spray bottle with a water-based cleaning solution and a soft brush to remove residue. Rinse with tap water and dry using a heat gun or by placing it in direct sunlight. Optionally, apply a thin coat of water-based polyurethane to protect and enhance the engraving. Inspect the final piece for any touch-ups and trim any excess wood if necessary before displaying your beautiful nativity scene.
