The settings that are included in XCS file are the settings I used for the wooden ornament pictured.  The engrave settings leave a very deep impression in the Sapele.  If you do not want a deep impression, you will want to lower the power on your engrave settings.

If you are using any material other than 3mm Sapele, you will definitely want to run some tests to see what settings work best for your project.

After running the file through XCS you can lightly sand the top or the ornament to remove any unwanted burn marks (if there are any), and then clean off any dust.  At this point you can leave the ornament as a simple engraved wooden ornament and add a ribbon, or you can add some hand-painted details of your choosing.  I used a combination of Posca paint markers, ink, and a fine detailing paint brush.  If you use a light hand when adding your colors, they will stay on the top most layer only, leaving the deep pockets of the engraving untouched.  Once your paints/inks dry, add your ribbon for hanging.
