Just a quick little 3D Christmas ornament I made from some pieces left over from a couple of other projects. These are so much fun to put together!
If you haven't already, download the file then open it up in XCS. With your desired material in the laser, focus and then mark your cutting area. I have a lot of scrap from odd sized projects, and it comes in handy for projects like this. It takes a little longer, but it's a great way to make your stock go farther!
Verify the cut, score, and engrave settings are correct for your laser.
Grab all the pieces. There are some small ones here, particularly the stars and the center of the numbers 0 and 4.
I like to gather all the paints I am using before I begin, that way I am not scrambling to find them when my fingers are eventually covered in paint. Then, I use blue painters tape placed sticky side up, held down down by more blue painters tape at each end to keep it in place. Then I place the piece to paint on the tape. This keeps both of my hands free while painting.
The back piece can be tricky. I use a 4-inch foam roller with a VERY small amount of paint on it, and I use almost no pressure when rolling over the engraved words. Take your time, you can do it!
Assemble the pieces in this order.
As mentioned above, there is a top ring layer. You can see it in the image above (it's the black ring) but I chose not to use it. Black didn't look right, but maybe another color would, like the blue from the background.
That's it, you're done! Hang it on your tree or share it with a friend or neighbor. 'Tis the season!
