I decided to make a gift for my grandson to give to his teacher that will brighten up her classroom with a welcome.
Import the file “school sign base”. When importing, you'll want to group everything immediately so that pieces don't get misplaced.
Next, set your material thickness. For me, that was 3mm. The base layer is cut only so you'll then set your cut paraments.
Once you've done this, select “process” and check the preview to make sure it looks as expected, and then proceed to cut.
When importing the second file, I just delete the first from the screen so that my material thickness remains. Import the second file, group immediately, and set paraments. This file is going to be cut and engrave. I've added the settings for each above.
Proceed to preview and cut.
Import the 3rd file and group upon import. For this file, you will cut and SCORE (not engrave). I've noted my settings for the P2 above.
As usual, enter your settings and then proceed to preview and process.
The first thing you'll want to do when you've imported the grades is to group them individually so that you can move them around without issue. I used scrap wood to cut mine so this is particularly useful.
I chose 3rd grade because it's for my grandson but you can make it changeable by cutting all grades and adhering with a thin velcro or removable adhesive. If you decide to do just one grade, simply delete the rest from the screen.
There is only cutting in this layer so set your paraments for that and then you're ready to cut.
I prepainted the base with white paint. It's pretty translucent so it looks more like a stain.
For the second layer, you'll only see the pencils and ruler in the final product so that's all that I painted (I hate painting).
For the last layer, I went with Unicorn Spit red. I love this one. Since some of the letters are free floating, they can be fragile. Use care and make sure that you're painting on a flat surface.
All that's left is the gluing. I find that if I line up the holes, it pretty much lines up the rest. Do this for the second layer to first, and then set up for gluing the last layer.
When gluing the last layer, you'll line up the holes, but also pay attention to the letters since they are movable. Make sure to line them all up. Once that sets, you'll insert your chosen grade. You can either glue it or temporarily place it.
You're done!
