Information
Our neighbors have this large, vintage, used to be neon clock that faces our kitchen window. The clock does not work so it is just a decoration on their back patio. When it was first put up, they had some random time and I suggested they change it to five o'clock so we could say "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere, HERE!" As I was looking at it one day I thought I could take a picture and upload to XCS and using the great editing tools, make a design to put on some coaster for them for a Christmas present. Voila! The design came out great and the coasters are very cool looking. Easy peasy with XCS.

Process:
+ Took picture of clock
+ First tried to use ImagR to transform the picture into laser engraving friendly image, but I did not like how it was looking. ImagR is great for images, but it was not working for me in this case.
+ Imported clock image into XCS and they from there, I used the editing tools and built the image of the clock using the actual picture as my guide. Took some time, but XCS makes this an easy task and I get better each time I use it and as XTOOL adds features. Who needs Lightburn?
+ Ran some test patterns with the bitmap images and the text until I came upon the final process steps and processing settings.
+ The last canvas shows the bottom of the wooden holder I made with the same image. Bummed I did not take any pics of the holder.
+ Wrapped it up and gave it for Christmas.

Step1: Settings for engraving Slate Coaster

Started with Xtool suggested settings, but did experimental runs to tweak it to what looked good on these coasters.  Always worth doing test runs on scraps.  WRITE DOWN YOUR SETTINGS FOR NEXT TIME!

Step2: Use XCS to Develop Design

XCS is so great at editing, adding text, modifying the looks of text, etc.  Powerful tool you should learn and use.

I took a picture of the clock and then used XCS to make the final design.
