Step1: Set Up Your xTool M1
  • Power up your xTool and make sure XCS is installed on your computer.

Step2: Load the Dog Tag
  • Open the xTool Software

 

  • Create a New Project and load the above XCS file to create the dog tag. You can add additional text and even simple graphics if you would like depending on your preferences.

Step3: Prepare Your Dog Tag
  • Choose a Dog Tag suitable for engraving. Metal and aluminum tags are generally suitable but please ensure it is a type that is compatible with your machine.

 

  • Use the provided magnets or a jig to secure the dog tags to the engraving are of the xTool M1. Ensure the surface is flat and stable.

Step4: Machine Settings
  • In XCS open the above file or other settings to match your dog tag. These settings can include parameters like power, speed and passes which are crucial for a good engraving result.

 

  • Before starting the job ensure the laser is correctly focused on the surface of your dog tag.

Step5: Engraving
  • Use XCS to double check the positioning of the design on your dog tag.

 

  • Frame the dog tag to make sure the work piece is within the material.

 

  • Once everything is setup correctly, begin the engraving process. Monitor the engraving closely and do not leave the machine unattended.

Step6: Post-Engraving
  • Allow the engraving process to complete fully. Do not attempt to remove the dog tag while the machine is working.

 

  • After engraving is done and the machine has stopped, carefully remove the dog tag. Clean it with a soft cloth to remove any potential residue or dust from the engraving process.

  • Always wear your PPE when using your laser

 

  • Before engraving on the actual dog tag, you may want to do a material array/test grid to make sure you're getting the result you desire.

 

  • Keep your laser clean and well-maintained for the best engraving results and to prolong the life of your machine.
