Step1: Create an image

For this design I wanted an image of a warrior ape playing video games so I used AI  to create it as drawing from scratch takes a very long time. There are many AI image services available including the one included in the XCS software.

The prompt I used for this image was ‘a black and white silhouette of a warrior ape playing video game’. Your results may vary for making other images so play around with different prompts until you get an image that you like.

Including words like ‘black and white’, ‘silhouette’, and ‘simple’ can give good results when making images for laser engraving.

Step2: Sign design

Once you have your image you can add text about or understand as I did in this example. Then you should select both the image and text together and use the outline tool in XCS set to at least 3mm. This will give you a vector outline to cutout your sign.

Depending on what you plan on doing with your sign, you might also want to add some mounting holes as I have done in each corner.

Step3: Cutting settings

These are the settings for cutting 1.6mm acrylic using the xTool D1 Pro 5w laser.

Step4: Engraving settings

These are the settings I used for engraving but these may need to be adjusted for other materials.
