Step1: xTool P2 Limit Templates

Motivation
I travel for work and would like to prepare graphics when away from home for laser processing once I return home. But I find XCS to be limiting not only for graphic design, but also for placement of graphics in preparation for processing when unable to connect to the machine. I needed a precision template for use in graphic design programs (e.g. Illustrator). Also, I constantly see people asking questions related to max material processing size, etc on Facebook groups.

Solution
Using Illustrator, I created a P2 and P2S template with the following objectives:

  • Depict precise limit dimensions and placement within the full work bed including the three primary processing modes
    • Process on slats
    • Honeycomb panel
    • Baseplate removed
  • Depict the close shot camera’s full travel limits
  • Depict the close shot camera’s best accuracy limits. This shows the limits of the close shot camera when placed directly over the target minimizing off center distortion.
    • As of XCS v2.1.12, this zone is unnecessarily clipped at the front and right side when using the close shot camera in Baseplate removed mode.
  • Illustrator template that also includes with the following:
    • Layers
    • Guides
    • Artboard (currently sized to the actual full work bed which is larger than what xTool advertises)

Customization
Of course, using the Illustrator template, you can create additional artboards constrained to specific processes, hide layers, etc. If you find an inaccuracy, please let me know so that I can update all of the files.

XCS
The XCS file with the SVG template already inserted is also provided. This shows that the grouped SVG should be shifted according to the processing mode:

  • Process on slats and Honeycomb panel (as saved): X -20.5 Y -40.5
  • Baseplate removed: X -70.5 Y -40.5
