Step1: Using AI to create shapes

I'm very interested in the things AI can do so I try to generate with adobe illustrator some simple mountains. I really like the most of the results so I decided to go with the second version almost instantly.

If you convert them to editable for my idea of a business card holder I needed to do some clean up and transformations to be able to use them as you already saw.

Step2: Create Path for cutting

  1. In the first step select the single path and convert inside illustrator from border to fill shape by using make & expand
  2. Create some rectangles in height das fits your material thickness to create the puzzle pieces to connect them easily
  3. Substract the rectangles from the shapes but keep a copy to create the bottom plate
  4. Create a rectangle in desired size and merge with smaller rectangles.

Step3: Laser Settings

For this one I used air assist on mid settings to get clean results instantly bc sanding the delicate mountain could break it.

So if needed just do it by hand and keep attention.

Step4: Assembling

  1. Arrange your pieces, I did by puzzled them together
  2. Add glue to the bottom piece and the first side and stick it onto the bottom plate in 90° .
  3. Add some pressure to make it stick good and hold for some minutes
  4. Repeat for second site.

And this is how this business card holder is looking with cards. I think this is so cool and a new fun way to display. This could be done with many more shapes and engraving combinations.

I hope you liked it and have fun creating your own! ~Anzy
