We invited of a few friends over for a July 4th party and we wanted to make something to give to our guests.
I broke the flag into two layers, the first is to cut through the painter's tape and just a little of the wood (it should not cut through the whole piece of wood). The second layer will cut the flag from the sheet of wood.
Prep the wood by covering it with the tape. The laser will cut through the tape so you can take pieces of tape off, exposing the areas you want to paint without getting paint on the other areas.
Once the laser cuts the flags out you can peel pieces of tape off the stripe area (every other one) that you want to paint red. Once you have done that you can paint the exposed wood red. The remaining tape should protect the covered wood from being painted. It is much easier to use a colored marker for this. Let it dry.
Next, peel off the area you will be painting blue (the area with the stars) and paint that section. Due to how small the flag is the stars just look like tiny black dots. I used a blue marker and just colored this section in.
At this point you could remove the rest of the tape. You can either leave the white stripes and the stars alone and leave them the color of the wood or use white paint to fill in those areas. If you decide to use white paint, you could use a fine tip paint brush or a toothpick to fill in the stars. When painting the white stripes just go slow and the cuts made with the laser early should help you from painting over into the red sections.
Lastly, connect the earring hooks to the hole on top of the flag. When I squeeze the jump ring, I make sure I have the two ends inside the wooden hole. HAPPY 4th of JULY
