Make this simple Christmas tree ornament from two layers of basswood plywood. I adapted simple PNG artwork published on the internet with free, noncommercial use licenses and added my own elements. Experiment with different wood stains or painting techniques. My favorite backgrounds use acrylic pour painting in two different color themes, one for the sandy desert and another for the cloudy night sky. (The internet has lots of instructions for this fun and simple painting technique.)
The most time-consuming step is using acrylic pour painting techniques to create a random, multicolored background to simulate desert sand and a twilight sky. Search the internet for instructions on this technique. There are various styles and artists who recommend different materials. The bottom line is that you mix each color of acrylic paint with a pouring medium (so that it runs freely across your board) and a little oil (so that the colors do not mix). For something like this, I use the cheapest paint and school glue cut with water as a pouring medium. To add stars to the night sky, dip a tooth brush in white paint. Swipe your thumb across the bristles causing paint to spay onto your surface.
During assembly, I use a basic wood glue that dries clear.
