This gift for a child is a fresh take on an old-fashioned toy -- the spinning button or buzz saw toy. Sometimes the best toys are non-electric. Please note:using the toy takes a bit of practice. There are numerous videos on YouTube that show how to get it spinning. This particular example is well balanced and makes a pleasing buzz sound when it gets going. I based the pattern on a vintage drawing of an octopus.
Gather supplies and laser cut octopus
Paint or decorate the octopus
Thread cord through one of the straw pieces (finger protectors.) Next thread both ends of the cord through the holes from front to back, one end of cord per hole. Slip one end of the cord through the other straw piece, then knot the two ends together making a loop with the octopus suspended in the middle.
Have fun.
