Cut three of these out of the ¼" or 6mm basswood or plywood. Your choice as to which wood you use but it needs to be ¼"/6mm.

Cut these layers out of 1/8" or 3mm basswood. You can keep the animal cutouts and letter cutouts for other projects. They are not needed for this one. Besure to keep the center of the R. It will be needed later in assembly.

Cutout the animals and letters from ¼"/6mm basswood. Set these aside and keep them for assembly.

Finish your pieces before assembly. You can paint or stain them anyway you choose. I have tried painting and staining. Both look great.

Layer 1: the backboard. spread a thin layer of glue to cover the entire surface

Layer 2: place the 1/8"/3mm layer with the animals and letters cutout on top of layer 1. take care to align the holes and edges

Layer 3: insert the ¼"/6mm animal and letter cutouts into the layer 2

You can choose how you want to run the rope. I've tried a few approaches as can been seen in the photos of the completed pieces.
