First step is to layout the work area to know where to put the words. Since these are 10in x 10in I made the main square 254mm x254 mm. There are some variances so you will need to make sure you measure. Each slat is about 61.5mm X 254mm. Getting this right was about the hardest part of this project. Play around with the spacing once you create your 4 slats and make sure you frame it.

(note make sure you click the words first. that will make sure that the alignment is correct)

Once you have what you want to say on the sign, you can align it by first clicking words then the big square and doing a v-center align. Then to center it horizontally you will need to click each word individually and its corresponding slat box while holding ctrl for windows and command for mac. Then you do align h-center.

Here are the settings I used as I wanted a deep cut in order to fit the cut out letters. I used 100mm/s at 60% power. Adjust accordingly to your machine. Line up the board and frame. Once ready send it.

To cut out the letters I just put a 3mm plywood and copied the words to a new file. I thought this was easier than playing around with the settings, Focus your laser to the new material and then cut the wood at 12mm/s at 90% power.

After you are finished you will need to clean up the words and glue them in place. You can use either wood glue or super glue. I prefer super glue. Put the glue directly on the sign in the cavity as it avoids you dropping the words on the sign and accidentally ruining your sign (don't ask me how I know)

Once dry, you can finish it will a clear coat or leave it like it is. Hang it somewhere in the house to invite more warmth in the house.
