Cigars are a traditional gift for new fathers to give out. It is easy to make your own, custom cigar bands to celebrate a new life! Some say sharing cigars at a child's birth originated with Native Americans, but it is certain that American households in the 17th and 18th centuries took up this tradition.
You will need:
Nice papers
double sided tape
cigars
Create your band. Standard cigar bands are around 3.5" long. That will let you use your label on almost any cigar. Cigar bands can be many heights, but I found that anything over 1" tall looked cartoony.
Decorate your band any way you want - storks, hearts, baby feet are all easily available and free svg clip art that you can incorporate into your design, but make sure there is a small section at the end of the righthand side that has no cuts, because that is where you will use adhesive.
To shape my band, I made a rectangle and a circle, and then used the 'combine' function to make the shape.
Make sure the outside line is set to cut.
attach double sided tape to the far side of the band.
make sure it is well pressed into the paper, or the top protective paper will be harder to remove.
Peel back the second side of the adhesive tape, wrap the label around the cigar, and press the tape closed.
You are done! Go celebrate!
