I made a keychain of a musical squirrel because....why not? I love music, karaoke, and squirrels so it's just fitting for me. And it's kind of funny. Hope you enjoy!
I used the D1 Pro 20 W settings for basswood. I changed the engrave setting to do 2 passes because you want the engraving a bit deeper for paint.
Remove any visible soot from the wood pieces. I use a towel and alcohol to clean it a bit.
Use Bulls Eye Shellac or something similar to seal the wood. Let it dry! You could possible have this already done before the engraving. I have done it both ways.
Have dampened pieces of paper towel ready to go!
Push acrylic paint into the engraved areas. Wipe off the excess paint with damp paper towel pieces. It should wipe off fairly easy since the pieces have a sealer on them.
I painted everything in white first. Let that dry. Then chose other colors for different areas.
I mixed a tiny bit of UV resin with some black and silver glitter. Use a toothpick to spread into the engraving. Then use a scraper to rake the excess off. I used a razor blade.
Cure under a UV light. I used a small UV flashlight I got from Hobby Lobby.
You can use alcohol to clean up the resin from any tools or the wood piece if necessary.
Seal the pieces with a clear sealer of your choice. I used Rustoleum Triple Thick Glaze on this one. After it dried, I also sprayed the back.
Add the jump rings with pliers and keychain finding and you are done!
