My wife was looking in the store for a picture frame for her cousin's newborn so when I got home i designed this one and she loved it. I hope you all love it as well. The file named Task Picture Frame is the file I used in the photos attached. Afterwards I changed somethings to make it easier to create but I have not tried that other version out. I think the update version will be easier to make and please let me know if you make that version. Thank you.
I could not cut all three layers on one sheet, so I had to use three sheets and cut out one at a time. I designed each layer marking each cut with its own number. I picked one layer and disabled the output and show button for the other layers. All the cut numbers are the same settings. I printed one layer at a time disabling any layer I wasn't currently printing. If you have a sheet of wood big enough to print all three at once skip disabling the output, also use the information below to separate the layers.
From attached photo
Back layer is layers 03 &04
Middle layer is layers 07, 08, & 00
Top layer is layer 05
The back layer has two holes so the frame could be mounted on a wall with a nail. It can also be placed on a display easel you can get from the dollar store as well. I made an indentation on the back layer to make space to slide a 5x7 photo into the frame. The indentation I made is a little tight, but I was able to manage to slide a photo inside. So, I would recommend maybe using a higher power to make a deeper indentation.
On the update file I changed this layer, so you only cut out the mounting holes. The indentation will be on the middle layer. I did this update so it would cut down on the total time to make the picture frame.
There is nothing special with the middle layer. In the updated file I made the indentation on this layer so the machine would only have to burn a smaller section of wood in which should cut laser time usage on this project.
*** Make sure if you are doing each layer one at a time you disable the output on the other layers.
The top layer is the letters. I made the letters connecting and I separated two sections of this layer to make it easier to glue to the middle layer later. The "x" also is separate so don't worry when you see it not connected to the other letters.
*** Make sure if you are doing each layer one at a time you disable the output on the other layers.
Once all the layers are cut, make sure to use a razor on any spots that wasn't cut through to separate it from the sheet of wood. Be careful and be safe when using anything sharp. You can use any color paint you would like on the middle layer and the top layer. Let them dry completely before trying to glue each layer together.
After the paint dried, using super glue I glued the back layer and middle layers together and used clamps to hold them together. You could use wood glue f you would like as well. If you don't have any clamps, you could place a heavy object on top of the two layers. Make sure the layers don't shift while under the object. When gluing these two layers make sure you don't glue the side that has the indentation (this is where you will be sliding the photo into the picture frame.
Now when you glue the top layer, I separated the layer so it could be glued easier. I glued the letters, so the top of the letters lined up with the outside of the middle layer. Doing it this way the bottom of the letters should stick over the inside of the frame. Make sure all layers are completely dried before attempting to put a photo inside the picture frame.
I hope you all enjoy this picture frame and please comment on any way I can make this better.
