I love Tulips and love this little design in the shapes panel so wanted to make earrings with this featured on them.
I outlined the combined image at .15 so that I was able to maintain the shape in a normal manner and then combined it.
I then chose the tulip from the shapes panel and proceeded to resize, mirror image and turn the images so that they sat well within the combined shape and placed them accodingly.
I then grouped, copy and pasted to make a pair.
I wanted to add the tulip design to another circle so that I could engrave the metall discs, but also in doing so, depending on the size of the disc you may need to play around slightly with the design so that when you are framing it all sits perfectly to the disc.
This is an idea I have had in my mind for a few weeks now and have been trying it out in so many different way and was not happy with any of it until now.
To set the design up I used the circle, ¼ circle and cats eye shape.
I resized everything as well as copy and pasting to get the sizes required. For the earring shape itself I resized the circle to a much smaller size and overlapped it on top of the larger circle and then at the bottom I used a resized ¼ circle and then combined them altogether.
For the top of the earring design I used the ¼ circle design and added in the cats eye design which I had previously outlined to make it much softer (outlined at .15) so that when it cut out would give a nicer look to that part of the earring.
For the metal disc I used the IR settings and ignored the circle.
The settings I used are: Poer 100, Speed 30, Lines per cm 300 and Pass 1.
I always like to wipe the discs with a microfibre cloth first (so there are no finger prints to take away from the design) and place on a metal business card to save any engraving possibly hitting my base plate. These machines are not cheap so why not protect your investment.
I then proceeded to set up for the cutting and engraving.
I have used a 2mm plywood so settings shoud be lower than using a 3mm plywood. Setting for the cutting area: Power 80, Speed 6, Pass 1
For the engraving: Power 40, Speed 40, Pass , Lines 100
This is something I find very fiddly especially since it is something I am not accustomed to doing, I have only started making earrings in the last two weeks so forgive me if I am wrong in what I do, but I did sell a pair of earrings to one of my work colleagues last week!
I used water colour paints once again as it is more like a stain. The coloiur I used was burnt Sienna and some black as I didn't want too much of a red colour on the earrings.
I have noticed there is a bit of a blob on one of the earrings so i will fix that up once they are fully dried.
I then used 3 x 5mm jump rings and 4 x 4 mm jump rings to attach earring hooks and metal disc.
I hope you enjoy my creation!
