For the outer Box

  1. Use online box maker. I used https://en.makercase.com/#/ (There are several to choose from)
  2. Select the type of box you would like to use. I used the Simple box
  3. Select the dimensions of the box (see images above for dimensions I used)
  4. Select inside or outside dimensions. I selected outside
  5. Select the size wood you are using
  6. Select open or close box. I chose a closed box with a lid
  7. Select the type of joints. I like Finger Joints. You can slide for more or less joints.
  8. As a reminder, as you are adjusting the settings you can right click the box and move to see what it will look like.

For the smaller Inner Box to hold the pieces:

Do the same as above but making the box smaller to fit inside the outer box. (see images above for dimensions I used)

To make the game pieces

  1. Decide the size of the pieces. I made mine 2.36 inches and a total of 16 pieces.
  2. Find images or use your own images to engrave on the pieces. I selected vehicles and emergency vehicles since this is what my great nephew loves. There are many free non licensed images to be found online. I have included the images I used.
  3. Once you have created the disk size, you can create an array of the first 8 blank pieces. To create an array, select the piece on your work space, On the left side of the Lightburn workspace you will see an image of six little squares (see picture above). Click on the image and change the columns and rows to however you want it to appear on your worksheet. I selected 2 columns and 4 rows allowing for 8 pieces.
  4. Add your 8 images to the pieces. If you are selecting images from online, here is a quick way to create the outline of the image to be easily engraved. Import the image to your workspace, click on the image to highlight it, right click on the image and select trace image. (in the settings of the trace image, I selected remove image after tracing) This will outline the image in purple, click ok and now you have a picture without it being an actual image file to engrave.
  5. Once all 8 images are on the pieces, select all 8 pieces and make an array to duplicate what you just created. This will give you your 16 pieces. (two of each design) You will most likely need to resize the image to fit into your piece and center.
  6. Now to set the settings to cut and engrave you will use two different colors to determine one for cut and one for engrave. This is done in lightburn by selecting a color from the color palette at the bottom of your screen.
  7. Since I am using a D1 Pro 20 watt my cut settings are at 420 mm/min at 80% power. This can also be done in XCS using the default settings. The engrave settings were 3000 mm/min at 60% power. These can be adjusted to your liking and to the machine you are using.
  8. If you choose, you can also change the settings to fill for the image if you would like it darker.
