This project is a spectrum colors of the rainbow, it is 11 layers and sits in a spinning formation. Made from 6mm birch along with Bearings, (Bearings are Optional) paint, inkjet printing and made with the M1 Ultra 20w.
Step 1) The first thing with this project was to make the swing arm, there are 11 of these and they are all made the same. It starts with a circle, this circle is copy and pasted and is overlapped to create a moon shape. With these circles in place the subtract is used to create the new shape. Now that the new shape is made it is copied and reversed and set end for end to create yet another shape. The center is also created with a smaller circle. All of these items are combine to make the overall shape of the rainbow blade. The inside center is created to match the size of the bearing.
Step 2) Now that we have the blade created it is time to set up the canvas for cutting. There are 11 of these blades needed so it is laid out on more than 1 canvas.
Step 3) Now we need a top and bottom plate. This is made from 6mm Birch but an image is also printed on it with the inkjet printing module from the M1 Ultra. Here the image is printed and the with the 20w module it is also cut. A clear coat was added for protection.
Step 4) Now that all the pieces are cut out the bearings are installed into the center, Each of them will not need a bearing it is for alignment. To keep it all straight while gluing the pieces together a Straw is used. With each blade a spacer is glued between each of them until it gets to the top. Then the top and bottom pieces that was printed is glue to cap the entire assembly. When everything is dry and ready to go it is all placed on a small wind up lazy Susan to watch it spin.
