Information
In legend, a village was threatened by a dragon. This dragon lived in a nearby lake and often demanded that the villagers offer livestock and even humans as sacrifices in exchange for temporary peace. Later, the villagers were forced to sacrifice the king's daughter to the dragon. Just as she was about to be devoured by the dragon, St. George appeared on horseback, spear in hand, and fought the dragon fiercely.
St. George eventually pierces the dragon's throat with his spear, killing the creature and saving the princess and the village. The villagers converted to Christianity because of St. George's heroic act. The legend symbolizes the triumph of the Christian faith over evil and paganism.
