Made my wife a Sewing Needle box Nice personal place to hold and keep her needles save.
Step 1) This project starts with a rectangle with a small radius so the corners are not sharp, it is sized to an approx size of a business card. It then is copied and pasted 3 times to make 4 total. The 4 one is resized again to make for the thin box area.
Step 2) Next is to bring in the graphics for the top lid of the box, this was created in different software and was brought in to XCS software as an image file. Along with the graphics 4 small circles are needed to inset the 5mm magnets so they can be placed flush to the base and the lid. they are placed in the 4 corners of the base.
Step 3) In this step all the adjustments to settings are done, the cuts and the engravings, The graphics are set differently to the magnet hole engravings and you can see they are adjusted accordingly.
Step 4) This next step is a tricky one, the side the graphics were engraved on is simply flipped over and the same 4 hole pattern is moved in to place, this way the 4 holes on the base line up with the 4 holes on the lid but the underside. Once the laser finished the 2 step procedure it was time to glue the 2 pieces of base together and install the magnets. The holes for the magnets are designed to just press in the magnet glue is optional. Same goes with the 4 holes on the under side of the lid they too can just press fit the magnets in place. To finish the needle box off a small piece of felt or velvet is glued on the bottom of the box to hold the needles in place.
