Instruction

Step1: Prepare the Materials and the Rotary Attachment with the Chuck
Preview

Materials Needed:
- Stainless steel water bottle (I used one I had at home)
- Rotary Attachment (Chuck)
- Screwdriver and other accessories that come with the RA2
- Level
- Masking Tape or Painter’s Tape (Optional)

Prepare the Rotary Attachment with the Chuck

Remove the Rollers
I used a screwdriver to remove the rollers from the rotary attachment and replaced them with the chuck for this project, as my tumbler has a handle.

Remove the Handle
Since my tumbler was too large to rotate even with the chuck, I had to take off the handle. Luckily, they were attached with screws, so removing them was straightforward. 😉

Secure the Tumbler in the Chuck
I used single-step jaw components to secure my tumbler in the chuck. You may need to use the key for final adjustments.

Step2: Prepare the Rotary Attachment in your Xtool Machine

Remove the Baseboard: Start by removing the baseboard from your Xtool machine and ensure the machine is placed on risers. (I have the wooden risers on)

Position the Rotary Attachment: Place the rotary attachment under the laser engraver. Align it with the machine so that it is centered and balanced.

Connect the Rotary Attachment: Plug the rotary attachment into the designated port at the back of your machine. This is where it should connect on the M1 model.

Level Your Tumbler: Ensure your tumbler is level and properly positioned in the chuck.

Identify the RED DOT: Locate the RED DOT, which marks the highest point of the tumbler. This point is crucial for auto-measuring, so be sure to accurately identify it as the starting point for your project.

Step3: Prepare your file in Xtool Creative Space

Open the Design in xTool Creative Space: Download the design file you want to engrave. Open the file in xTool Creative Space. The software allows you to adjust the design’s size, orientation, and positioning to fit your bottle precisely.

Measure Your Tumbler

  • Measure the Perimeter: Using the tape measure that came with the RA2, measure the perimeter of your tumbler.
  • Measure the Height: Also measure the height at which you want to engrave your design.

Resize Your Design: Once you have the dimensions you need, adjust your pattern to match the desired size for your tumbler.

  • Create a Rectangle: Using the BASIC SHAPES from the left menu, create a rectangle with the dimensions you need.
  • Place Your Design: Position your design on top of the rectangle.
  • Create Mask: Select both elements (the rectangle and the pattern), then press the “Create Mask” button to fit your design within the rectangle.
  • Confirm: Press DONE to finalize the adjustments.
  • Ready to Use: Your design is now resized to the dimensions you need.

  • Set the MODE
Set the MODE to “Use rotary attachment” and select CHUCK.
  • Adjust the Green Line
Position the green line where you want your design to start engraving.
  • Orient Your Design
Ensure your design is oriented correctly according to the tumbler. You may need to rotate it 180 degrees if necessary.
  • Auto-Measure and Input Dimensions
Auto-measure the distance, and then add either the perimeter or the diameter of your tumbler as required.
  • Frame and Process your project.
  • Clean the Bottle: Use wet wipes to clean the area engraved, removing any residue. Wipe the entire surface with detergent and water.
  • Put the handles back, in case you took them off like me.

This was my first time using the chuck, and I'm very happy with the result. I hope you enjoy this project as much as I did!

If you like my project, please leave me a thumbs up or a comment. Your feedback will make my day! :)

Please note that all settings mentioned are specific to XTool M1, so be sure to check the settings on your machine, as they may differ.
