Wanted to make a floating shelf with engraving on the curves.
Step 1) This project starts with a shape I created in different software, once it is in the work area brought in from using the image button it is copied and pasted to have 2 the same.
Step 2) In this step the back needs to be created, this starts with a rectangle the same length as the shape from earlier, along with the backing a simple screw hole will be created for each end at the same time. this is done with uniting a rectangle and a circle together. once they are united they are placed an inch or so in from both ends and then it is all grouped together.
Step 3) Now there will be supports needed, these are made from slats the same thickness as the back, these will be cut at a size and easily snapped shorter if needed during the glue up stage we will cover shortly. I made a total of 8 of them with the array feature.
Step 4) In this step I am going to create the scoring image for the front flexible banding, this will be a rectangle for a guide and the ready made design will be placed in the center. the rectangle is only for framing purposes so it will not have any power to it.
Now everything else in the file will be cut, the settings for cutting were adjusted and it was sent to the laser. Once the laser was finished and all the pieces were removed from the machine they were laid out on the work bench for gluing. As you can see the slats are there to keep the top and bottom shapes the right distance apart and also for strength. The screw holes that were made earlier come in handy for mounting to the wall with nails or small screws. This small floating shelf will not handle to much weight but can hold at least 10lbs and that is more than enough for small trinkets.
Step 7) Now it was time to mount it to the wall, as you can see it looks like it has room for a few trinkets and I happened all kinds of things around.
