I wanted to build a stand for my laptop desk. Initially, I intended to use 3mm basswood, but I opted to test the design with a cardboard sample because I was unsure about the dimensions. I liked how the design turned out, but the cardboard wasn’t sturdy enough, so I decided to use twice the material to make it more robust.

This design consists of three elements that will come together at the end. For each element, we will glue four pieces together. The two lateral stands will each have identical pieces. For the stretcher that connects them, we will use a Mortise & Tenon Joint.
Please refer to the diagrams for more info.

Step2: Cutting the Pieces

Check framing and then process your project. I had to cut this design twice to duplicate the pieces for each element.

I did this project in 3mm Corrugated Cardboard, but you can do it in 3mm Basswood too. You will just need to change the settings.

  • Assemble your laptop stand by gluing together four pieces for each componenttwo lateral sides and the connecting back part—you’ll create a sturdy stand. This guide will help you use a strong adhesive to ensure a durable and reliable laptop stand that will support your device with ease and style.
  • Let the component parts dry completely.
  • Then, add glue and insert the back part into the lateral sides using the Mortise & Tenon Joint.
  • Also let the joints dry completely
  • Enjoy it!
