Step1: Testing your settings!

Firstly, I recommend that you test different settings on the scratch paper with your laser. There are different settings that lead to a good result, depending on how you would like the final look to be.
In the picture you can see that different styles come out depending on the power and lines per centimetre.

Step2: Engraving

Once you have found your perfect setting, you can engrave the image into your scratch paper! Things to consider:

  1. Remember to measure / adjust the height!
  2. But the scratch paper onto a base plate if necessary.
  3. The text in the project is of course customisable.
  4. With an M1, the above settings mean that the glittering silver is retained as far as possible and only the surface is really ‘scratched away’, which is actually the purpose of this paper!

TIP: You can use any kind of picture, but preferably pictures which contain something like water, where the glittering silver has a nice effect. Remember to only use pictures / photos which are free to use!

Step3: Adjustments

In the second picture here you can see which paper I used. Depending on the thickness of your paper or how the result of your laser turns out, you can do some more work:

  1. For example, I scratched the waves again with a sharpened wooden stick so that you can see the glittery background even more.
  2. Something to consider is using a frame for the scratch paper because of course it is quite easy to destroy
  3. Another idea would be to invert the image, which also has an interesting effect on the scratch paper!
  4. Lastly you could turn a bunch of these papers into a ‘scratchbook’ for children, where they have to add something to the pictures!

A gift like this is really fun and hardly any effort at all!
