Step1: Adjustments
Preview

In the first step, you can optionally make changes:

  1. The gnome can sit on any surface, even a box would be conceivable, for example.
  2. I have created a simple base with a cut-out for a background plate using the options offered by XTool Creative Space.
  3. I also wanted to have the name of the schoolchild above the figure, but here too you can of course customise the letters as you wish.
  4. Another idea would be to remove the beard i designed and place a rounded part in the face so that it looks more like a child than an adult.

TIP: Remember to reduce the font size if the name is longer!

Step2: Cutting the pieces

The next part is pretty simple:

  1. Prepare your laser and insert a 3mm wood (plywood or MDF for example)
  2. Measure or adjust the height!
  3. Cut the parts with the above settings!

But be careful when picking up the parts: If you have an apostrophe in the name, it will probably fall down through the honeycomb plate.

Step3: Colouring

Now you can colour the individual parts as you wish! The gnome also looks great in colour! I decided to colour only the letters to create contrast and make the name stand out straight away. For the colouring, there are a few options:

  1. simple coloured pencils for less effort
  2. felt-tip pens for less effort
  3. water paint for a duller finish
  4. acrylic paint for a thick and strong colour
  5. spray paint for an even surface and a quick finish

Step4: Assembly

Finally, join the parts together:

  1. First glue the hat onto the largest part of the gnome
  2. Glue the beard underneath and the trousers at the bottom - flush with the edge.
  3. The nose and the two feet are then glued on in the second layer! I usually use superglue because it produces results relatively quickly.
  4. You then stick the gnome into his base plate and glue the whole thing together onto the large rectangular plate with rounded corners.
  5. Into this plate the second rectangular plate (onto which the name was previously glued) is then stuck.

Have fun with this build!
