        The 15-note hand-cranked music box is made with high-quality wood which provides a comfortable touch. The box makes a beautiful decoration in any setting thanks to its fine craftsmanship and elegant wood grain. With its interactive hand-crank design, you can enjoy creating and listening to music at the same time.

Step1: Prepare your laser machine and plywood sheets

  1. Turn on your laser machine and connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Open the xTool Creative Space (XCS) software and connect your machine on XCS.
  3. Open the "Top Cover of 15-Note Hand-Cranked Music Box.xcs" file.
  4. Prepare a 3 mm black walnut plywood sheet and a 3 mm basswood plywood sheet.

Step2: Laser engrave and cut the two plywood sheets

  1. Process each plywood sheet in the machine one at a time. After processing the first sheet, select the other canvas on XCS before processing the second sheet.
  2. After the processing is complete, you will obtain the boards shown in the images. Select two boards you prefer to use as the upper and lower covers for the top of the music box. Clean the boards using a tissue before assembly.

Step3: Prepare the components of the music box

The components of the music box are shown in the image, including a wooden box, movement, upper cover, lower cover, and three screws.

Step4: Assemble the top cover

  1. Apply glue to the back of the upper cover.
  2. Align the edges of the upper and lower covers, and glue them together. Press the upper cover for 15 seconds to ensure a strong bond.

Step5: (Optional) Apply wood polish

  1. Apply wood polish to the music box's top cover, and you can see the effect shown in the image.
  2. Note: Do not apply wood polish to the boards before sticking them together, as this can prevent the boards from adhering to each other.

Step6: Place the movement into the wooden box

  1. Insert the movement handle into the round hole on the side of the wooden box.
  2. Rotate the movement so that the handle's thickest part can pass through the round hole in the wooden box.
  3. Place the movement flat inside the wooden box with its bottom facing downward.

Step7: Secure the music box movement

Align the three holes at the bottom of the movement with those at the bottom of the wooden box. From the bottom of the wooden box, insert three screws through the aligned holes and secure them using a screwdriver. This ensures the music box movement is fixed inside the wooden box.

Place the top cover on the wooden box. Now, the assembly of the music box is complete.

  1. Align the puncher’s cross mark with a horizontal-vertical intersection on the paper strip, and press the puncher to punch a hole. You can punch any number of holes.
  2. Feed the punched paper strip into the music box's input slot, following the direction marked on the paper strip.
  3. Note: Feed the punched paper strip into the music box from the input slot framed in red in the image.
  4. Insert the paper strip into the music box movement from the input slot. After the movement tinkles or the handle starts to rotate automatically, turn the handle clockwise to play the music. Enjoy the melody you've created!
