This skull could be used as a keychain, wall decoration or even as a coaster by simply adjusting the size. I used glossy black and translucent red 3mm acrylic to give a high contrast and spooky look, but any materials can be used to make this creepy skull decoration.
I made this design by taking inspiration from various skull images found on Google and then drawing the final design by hand using an app called Affinity Designer. I then exported the file as an SVG and imported it into XCS to make final adjustments and prepare for cutting and engraving.
These settings are for cutting and engraving 3mm glossy black acrylic and cutting 3mm translucent red acrylic. Both of these materials were cut using the xTool D1Pro 5w laser.
When cutting the red part I also used the kerf offset feature set to 0.12 to get a tighter and more precise fit when the two parts are glued together.
Once both parts of your skull are cut and engraved it is time to stick them together.
You should apply a small amount of glue along the edge of the black piece where it will join together with the red section. Be careful not to get glue on the front surface of the acrylic as this can be very tricky to remove if left to dry.
When the glue is applied you should push the parts together firmly and lift from your work surface before the glue has time to fully set to avoid sticking your project to your table.
