Step1: Open xTools Creative Space
Preview

To begin this project, you need to open xTools Creative Space and adjust a few settings:

1. Change “Process on Flat Surface” to “Screen Preparation.”

2. Calibrate the origin; this will move the laser head to the corner of the screen and display the engravable surface on the workspace.

3. Adjust the Easy Set settings to 100% power and 135 speed. Although these are not the recommended settings, I have found that they work better.

4. Ensure that Air Assist is turned off if you have one, as using it during my first attempt resulted in improper engraving.

Step2: Position and Scale of the Shirt Design
Preview

To accurately position the design on the shirt, I prefer using a budget-friendly projector. By projecting the design onto the shirt, I can precisely mark its position using small pieces of white sticker paper purchased from Amazon. I then measure the size to ensure it fits perfectly. If you don’t have a projector, you can estimate the design’s size and use a ruler to measure one dimension accurately. Adjusting the design size to match the various dimensions of different shirts is vital for achieving the best result. After determining the correct size, fold the shirt in half and mark the center with two pieces of tape or sticker paper to aid in proper alignment.

Step3: Engraveing!

The next step is to engrave screens, this will around an hour depending on the size of your shirt.

1. Prepare Screens: Since the design requires only one color, you'll need to engrave one screen for the white ink.

2. Align and Scale: Align the origin and position the design accurately within the green engravable area on your screen. Use the dimensions you got from Step 2.

3. Flip and Orient: Make sure the design is flipped horizontally and oriented correctly for the shirt.

4. Start Engraving: Begin the engraving process. The duration may vary, but expect around an hour for completion.

85. Monitor Progress: As the D1 Pro engraves, consider watching a tutorial on screen printing for additional guidance if you new.

Step4: Screen Printing
Preview

    1.    Set up the engraved screen: Remove the screen from the laser cutter and attach it securely to the Screen Printer.
    2.    Prepare the shirt and plate: Place a sticky mat onto the wooden plate to keep the shirt in place during printing. Position your shirt on the sticky mat. The mat is essential for ensuring the shirt remains stationary throughout the printing process. For white ink, apply multiple coats until the color is vibrant.
    3.    Align the shirt: Adjust the shirt using the three knobs at the bottom of the plate to ensure accurate alignment. Center the shirt using the tape markings for precise positioning.
    4.    Apply the white ink: Flood the screen with white ink at a 45-degree angle, adding more ink at the bottom of the design to ensure complete coverage.
    5.    Print and dry: Lower the screen onto the shirt and drag the squeegee across the design to transfer the ink. Lift the screen and let the ink dry with a hair dryer, heat gun, or heat press. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the ink is vibrant
    6.    Finish: Carefully remove the shirt from the plate and let it dry completely, which can take up to 24 hours without a heating element. The ink is fully dry when it is no longer sticky.
