Step1: Open xTools Creative Space
Preview

Starting this project requires opening xTools Creative Space and modifying some settings:

1. Set “Process on Flat Surface” to “Screen Preparation.”

2. Calibrate the origin, moving the laser head to the screen's corner to reveal the engravable surface in the workspace.

3. Change the Easy Set settings to 100% power and 135 speed. These settings have proven more effective for me than the suggested ones.

4. Turn off Air Assist if it is available. My initial attempt with it resulted in poor engraving quality.

Step2: Positioning and Sizing of the Design
Preview

One effective method for positioning the design accurately on the shirt is to use a low-cost projector. I project the design directly onto the shirt and mark its position with small pieces of white sticker paper from Amazon, which helps in determining the exact placement. I then measure the design to ensure it’s the right size. For those without a projector, estimating the design size and measuring one dimension with a ruler is a good alternative. It’s essential to resize the design to suit the varying dimensions of different shirts. Once the design size is finalized, fold the shirt in half and use two pieces of tape or sticker paper to mark the center, facilitating precise alignment later.

Step3: Engraving the Screen
Preview

The next step is to engrave screens, this will around an hour depending on the size of your shirt.

1. Prepare Screens: Engrave one screen for the white ink, as only one color is involved at this stage.

2. Align and Scale: Align the design origin and ensure it fits properly within the green engravable area. Use the dimensions you got from Step 2.

3. Flip and Orient: Verify the design is flipped horizontally and positioned correctly for the shirt.

4. Start Engraving: Commence the engraving process, which typically takes just over an hour.

5. View Tutorial: While the D1 Pro does its work, watch a screen printing tutorial to get familiar with the process if you're new.

Step4: Screen Printing
Preview

    1.    Install the engraved screen: Detach the screen from the laser cutter and secure it onto the Screen Printer.
    2.    Prepare the shirt and plate: Affix a sticky mat to the wooden plate to prevent movement during printing. Place your shirt on the sticky mat. Using the mat is crucial for keeping the shirt in place, especially when printing in white ink. Apply multiple layers of white ink to achieve a vibrant result.
    3.    Align the shirt correctly: Use the three knobs at the bottom of the plate to align the shirt properly. Ensure the shirt is centered according to the tape markings for accurate placement.
    4.    Apply the white ink: Apply the white ink to the screen at a 45-degree angle, adding extra ink at the bottom of the design for even coverage.
    5.    Print and allow to dry: Lower the screen onto the shirt and pull the squeegee across the design to deposit the ink. Lift the screen and let the ink dry using a hair dryer, heat gun, or heat press. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until ink is vibrant.
    6.    Complete the process: Remove the shirt from the plate carefully and let it dry thoroughly. This may take up to 24 hours without additional heat. The ink will be dry when it is no longer sticky.
