A flexible living hinge makes a simple box into something much more interesting and unique. I made this box from 4mm cherry veneered MDF as I found that MDF is easier to cut and more flexible than plywood.
You will need plywood or MDF that is 4mm thick to complete this project. I used cherry veneered MDF as I find it is more flexible and less likely to break than plywood, but both materials will work.
I included the engraved tiger design in this file but this can be deleted or replaced with your own unique image.
Using the settings provided above, the cutting process will take around 60 minutes due to the large number of cut lines required for the living hinge.
As previously mentioned, these settings are for cutting MDF using the 5w xTool D1 Pro later and will need to be adjusted for other machines or materials.
The assembly process is very simple and only takes a couple of minutes.
You first need to slot together the 4 long side pieces, then these should slot into the holes on the bottom half of the living hinge piece.
If the parts aren't a tight fit due to variations in material thickness, you can add some wood glue to add extra strength.
