Information
In this project, we'll guide you through the process of making a custom t-shirt with the "Life Is Good After Coffee" design. By using a D1 Pro laser cutter and the xTools screen printer, you can achieve a professional and personalized result.

Instruction
1
Step1: Open xTools Creative Space
Preview

The first step to making this project is to open xTools Creative Space and Modify some settings.

  1. Change “Process on Flat Surface” to “Screen Preparation”
  2. Calibrate Origin, this will move the laser head to the corner of the screen and show you the engravable surface on the workspace
  3. Change the Easy Set settings to 100% power and 135 speed. These are not the suggested settings, but I have found that these work better
  4. Make sure to shut off Air Assist if you own one, I used one the first time and it did not engrave properly

Step2: Line Up Shirt Design
Preview

There are multiple ways to line up the design on the shirt so it is in the right spot, I personally use a cheap projector to place the design on the shirt in the right spot then use small pieces of white sticker paper from Amazon to mark the position and measure the size. If you do not have these then you can eyeball the size of the design you want and measure one of the dimensions with a ruler. It is important to resize the design because all shirts have different dimensions so for the best-looking shirt you will need to resize it. Once you have decided on the size of the design fold the shirt and half and mark the center with 2 pieces of tape or sticker paper, this will make it easier to line up later.

Step3: Engraving The Design
Preview

Once you have done the first 2 steps it's time to engrave the design. Make sure you have aligned the origin and the design is scaled and lined up properly on the green engravable area on your screen. Before you start make sure the design is flipped horizontally and rotated in the correct orientation for your shirt. Then you can start engraving, depending on the size of your shirt it takes different lengths, mine took just over an hour.

While the D1 Pro is engraving I recommend watching this YouTube video on how to screen print with the xTools Screen Printer since the next part can get a little technical.

Step4: Screen Print
Preview
  1. Take your engraved screen out of the laser cutter and secure it into the Screen Printer.
  2. Place the sticky mat on the wooden plate then insert your shirt onto the plate. We need to use the sticky mat since we are printing white ink on a dark shirt. We will have to apply 2-3 separate ink layers so the white is vibrant on the shirt.
  3. Line up the shirt using the 3 knobs at the bottom of the plate and lining it up on the tape marked center.
  4. Flood the design at a 45-degree angle. Then place more ink at the bottom of the design.
  5. Lower the screen then pull the squeegee to deposit ink. Lift up the screen and dry the ink with a hair dryer on a hot, heat gun or heat press, then repeat steps 4 and 5 until white ink is vibrant on the shirt.
  6. Remove the shirt to let dry.
  7. Get a well-deserved cup of coffee while wearing your “Life is Good After Coffee” shirt
