Information
This project involves creating a children’s chalkboard with a dragon theme. The chalkboard, measuring 19” by 11.5”, was purchased from a dollar store. The dragon graphic was uniquely designed using an AI text-to-image generator.

Select a chalkboard as your main material. A chalkboard measuring 19” by 11.5” is ideal.
Apply a masking layer that covers the entire board. Ensure the masking layer fits tightly to prevent paint from leaking underneath during the painting process.

Step2: Setting Up the Laser for Engraving
Preview
Load the chalkboard into your laser engraver.
Set the focus and marking area appropriately.
Load the file containing the dragon graphic and text.
Align the dragon graphic and text as desired on the chalkboard.
Check the laser settings to ensure the laser will completely cut through the masking paper. It’s acceptable if the laser cuts slightly into the board.
Run the file. This process should take between 12-15 minutes.
Before removing the board, inspect to ensure all lines are completely cut through the masking paper. If any areas are not fully cut, run the laser cut again.

Step3: Applying the White Paint

Remove the chalkboard from the laser engraver.
Carefully remove only the sections of the masking where you want to apply white paint.
Use a roller to press the remaining masking tightly onto the board to ensure a snug fit.
Apply a few light coats of white spray paint to the exposed areas. Avoid applying too much paint to prevent it from running under the masking, which could affect the final look.

Step4: Final Inspection and Completion

If you have carefully followed the previous steps, there should be no need for cleanup.
However, if any areas of the masking paper were not fully adhered to the board, you may need to remove excess paint.
Once everything is set, your children’s dragon-themed chalkboard is ready to be enjoyed!
