Step1: Design

  • Insert two shapes 
    • Half circle and rounded rectangle
    • line them up so that they are flush on the sides and slightly overlapping each other
    • select both objects and “unite”
  • Add baby's name at the top and align it center
    • select the text, copy and paste
      • set the copied text to cut
  • Add “MY FIRST YEAR”
    • set to engrave
  • Add at 2.5" x 2.5" square
    • go to the left side panel and click on the last icon
      • select grid array
        • 4 colums by 3 rows spacing 0.159 for both
          • select boxes, copy and paste 
            • set this set to cut
        • align baby's name, my first year and boxes vertical center
        • select all objects and group them together
  • Make sure the outline and all items inside are vertically aligned.
  • Insert a smaller rectangle at the bottom of the design that slightly overlaps to the outside
    • select the design outline and the rectangle and unite
      • This is the tab that will be used to go into the base.
  • Create a larger rectangle for the base that is as wide as the design as a whole.
    • You will not send this part to the laser with the main part

Step2: Laser and the Base

  • Auto measure your material
  • send only the main the design to the laser
    • DO NOT SEND THE BASE YET
  • once the design is cut grab your digital calipers and measure the tab width and length.
    • use these measurements to create a smaller rectanlge inside the base
      • select them both and set to cut

Step3: Photos - Sticker Paper or Glue

  • I used printable vinyl sticker paper for my photo and stuck my photo on the square and used an exacto knife to cut off the excess.

 

You could also use a plain photograph by using glue or modge podge to stick it to the square.

Once you have glued your photo to the sqaure you can glue your square to your board within the scored lines.

And you would do each month one by one.

Step4: Notes

I kept this very minimal but if you spaced out the boxes a little more you could add text between the rows “one month” “two months” “three months” etc. and engrave it to the board.
