Information

This project will help you tackle organizing your tool box. This box is designed to hold 1/4 inch router bits. You can customize it by adding your own text, or moving holes for the bits wherever you like.

Step1: Layout the Design

The first step was to create the box using boxes.py and use the XCS software to place holes with the same diameter as the shaft of the router bits.  The included design file has ¼ inch holes.  You can easily remove these holes and add in ½ inch circles if your router bits are not ¼.  Once you add in one, just use the array tool to evenly space each hole.

Step2: Settings

The settings are for the D1 5W laser.  You may need to adjust the settings for your laser configuration.

Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines for your laser and always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.

3

Step3: Prepare the box.

Sometimes, a little light sanding is required to get the finger joints to fit properly.  Just use 220 sandpaper to knock off a very thin layer.

Step4: Assemble and Glue up

To glue the box together, i placed a thin bead of glue along the finger joint and then folded up the sides.

Step5: Insert bottom holder

One of the parts has holes, but does not have fingers.  This part is intended to fit down in the bottom of the box and will hold the bits upright.  Be sure to match up the alignment of this piece and the top.
