Tree of Life Griffin

This relief engraving, titled "Tree of Life Griffin," is engraved on an 8”x8” piece of wormy maple hardwood. The artwork combines the symbolism of the Tree of Life with the mythical presence of a griffin, resulting in a captivating and intricate design. The wormy maple’s texture enhances the depth and detail, creating a dynamic interplay between light and shadow. Each element of the engraving, from the griffin's powerful stance to the intricate branches and roots of the tree, reflects a blend of nature and myth.
Select a piece of 8" by 8" wormy maple (or other hardwood) with interesting grain and wormy patterns. Sand the surface with progressively finer grits of sandpaper until smooth.
Place the 8" by 8" wormy maple into the laser. Adjust your focus and set the engraving area.
Make any necessary adjustments based on the power of your laser. The settings for this project were created for the S1 40 watt laser.
Once engraving is complete, carefully remove the piece from the machine. Inspect the engraving for any rough edges or imperfections. Lightly sand the engraved areas if needed, taking care not to damage the design.
Choose a suitable wood finish to enhance the natural beauty of the wormy maple and protect the engraving. Apply the finish evenly across the surface, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Allow the finish to dry completely, applying additional coats if desired for a richer appearance.
