I TWEEKED THIS DESIGN A LOT SO THE PICTURES WILL NOT MATCH UP TO THE FINAL PROJECT BUT THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME

This file as multiple canvas so please look in each canvas for all objects

  • Start off with a square
  • Add a rectangle at the top and bottom along with two squares in the middle
    • Make sure everything is perfectly centered with each other
  • Add some circles inside of your rectangles and squares and center them to those objects
  • Select all objects
    • Copy and Paste
      • On the pasted objects delete everything but the outer square and the circles
  • on my final project I extended the top and added text “TODAY IS…”
    • I copied and pasted it and the set the pasted one to “cut”
      • You can leave the other as “score” on top of the design
  • Next take a copy of one of the rectangles and squares
    • Now add your days of the week and month on the rectangles
    • You can do one, set your engrave settings, copy & paste add your next day or month and keep going until you have all the days of the week and month
      • To save on the wood you will only need to type the words for some of the days and the months and delete the outer rectangle
    • You can do the same for the numbers

Step2: Creating the Box for the Parts

THIS PROJECT HAD A LOT OF REVISIONS BEFORE I GOT IT RIGHT SO THE BOX YOU SEE HERE IS NOT THE ACTUALLY FINISHED DIMENSIONS BUT THIS IS A WALK THROUGH OF HOW TO GO ABOUT CREATING THE BOX

  • I created the box in makercase
  • type in all your dimenison on how you want your box to look
  • then download box plans
  • once the plans come up click “kerf” and change the kerf to “0.025”
  • download svg
    • save it to your computer and then open the file in XCS

Step3: Laser & Assembly

  • Send your calendar and box to the laser
  • Send your days, months and numbers to the laser
  • Assemble your box
  • Glue your frame for the calendar on top of each other
  • Paint your words and glue within scored lines on calendar front

Step4: Creating the Base
Preview
  • Once you have your box assembled grab your digital calipers and measure you the outside dimensions of the box
    • Create a rectangle in XCS to those exact dimensions
  • Now again with your digital calipers measures the dimensions of the calendar
    • create another rectangle in XCS with those exact dimensions as well
  • Once both boxes are created, create another outside box around those two
  • Select all objects and set to “cut”

Step5: Sanding
Preview
  • There was some scortching with my engraving so I sanded all my labels
6
Step6: Final Assembly
Preview
Preview
  • Insert your box inside the base and the calendar in its spot as well.
    • The calendar needs to be leaning a bit and not sticking straight up so that all the pieces stay in place.
    • place all your extra days, months and numbers inside the box
